Remembrance Day

Mrs Draper (Head of Norfolk House) led our Remembrance Day Assembly on Monday the 11th November.

We explored what remembrance is; Mrs Draper explained that it honours those who serve to defend our democratic freedoms and way of life. We explored the meaning of the symbol of Remembrance, the red poppy, and discovered that it is a sign of both remembering and hope for a peaceful future.

Ahead of our Remembrance Day Assembly the whole school gathered on the oval at 11am to observe the two-minutes silence to commemorate Remembrance.

Each of our four houses created a display board for Remembrance. These beautiful boards included stories, artefacts and images thoughtfully put together by our pupils.

As part of the day, pupils from Slindon College asked their questions to Yvonne Riseborough in a special interview led by family members including Mr Risebourough (LSA) and filmed and edited by Mr Bentley (Head of Performing Arts). Yvonne was a teenager in Belgium during the German occupation in World War 2 and gave great insight into what it was like at the time:
