Slindon College pupil Matthew elected onto West Sussex Youth Cabinet
-----
Slindon College pupil Matthew (Year 9) has been elected onto West Sussex Youth Cabinet for 2024 - 2026, following a successful manifesto.
Matthew will have a training weekend and then regular monthly meetings for his 2 year term of office.
Matthew said:
"First I had to write my manifesto, which had an emphasis on mental health; something I feel very strongly about. This was then submitted forward, and I found out I had been voted in by phonecall.
I am happy for this opportunity and that now I have a chance to make a difference."
The Youth Cabinet members are young people aged 11 to 18, elected to represent the views of young people in West Sussex.
Members attend events informing them about important social and political issues. They gather the views of other young people using online surveys, and campaign for changes by producing films, blogs and other media.
Recent projects and campaigns that the groups have worked on include:
- racial equality
- health and wellbeing
- the environment
- youth safety.
Mrs Vlahodimou (Headteacher) said
"We are hugely proud of Matthew's achievements, and we at Slindon College will continue to develop his passion for politics as he continues to move through the school. Well done!"
