Inter-House Challenge Day 2024
The Houses go head-to-head for House Point glory!
Traditionally a feature of many British schools and running through the heart of Slindon College is its vertically tiered House system.
This system aims to facilitate associations and bonds between the different year groups. By fostering a sense of pride, encouraging team building, community spirit and peer mentoring, it promotes involvement in competitions, and develops social skills not just with fellow peers but with pupils of different ages.
There are so many ways in which our pupils engage in the wider life of the College, through the rich and varied curricular and enrichment programmes, ranging from dramatic activities to charitable work. Our House system enables pupil participation to be recognised and rewarded.
Our pupils are divided between four Houses, each named after an English Peerage. The colour of the pupils tie correlates to the House they are in: Cowdray (Yellow), Norfolk (White), Richmond (Red) and Sussex (Blue). A Head of House and Prefect oversee the main activities for each House.
For our Inter-House Challenge Day, instigated by Mr Riseborough (LSA) for the first time in 2024, we have our four Houses competing in a full day of mixed Key Stage challenges, working on upping their House points!
English Challenge
It's nearly Halloween, and in English the pupils turned detective and took part in a fantasy Murder Mystery! They have been searching around the site, solving spooky spelling, punctuation, and grammar, in order to solve the case. The pupils also took part in Drama activities, and watched a specially shot 'challenge' video.
Maths Challenge
It's a race against the clock in our Maths Challenge to solve the different problems. Working hard in teams, all pupils were needed to get the team through to the end with these tricky hands-on tasks.
Land Based Studies Challenge
Wellies on! The teams are finding the perfect places to plant their House Bulbs! But which House team is working the best?
Pumpkin Challenge
Houses are carving and creating these spooky pumpkins in time for Halloween! But who will win with the best design?
Orienteering Challenge
The Houses have been completing a treasure hunt, collecting clues, making natural compasses, looking at cardinal positions, taking bearings and walking on a bearing.
You can find more photos from the day on our social media pages.
