At Slindon College we impress upon the importance of helping others, with each of our Houses connecting to a national charity.

The College supports a number of national charities on an annual basis with various fundraising events including mufti-days, sponsored walks, cake sales, raffles.  This allows the College to be able to make donations, monetary and goods, and raise awareness for those charities. 

The College encourages and supports pupils and staff to get involved in all kinds of voluntary and charity activities.   The message that pupils have a moral obligation to help others less fortunate than themselves is reinforced within the framework of our termly assembly programme. 

A big thank you to Canine Partners, (our Richmond House charity), who not only visited us to talk about the amazing work that they do, but showed us too! Arthur the dog demonstrated how he could get objects out of drawers, and even help someone take their hat and gloves off!

Assistance dogs are trained to meet the needs of individuals with even the most complex physical disabilities. They currently help adults aged 18 and over (both civilians and former service personnel) who have a physical disability or condition that affects their daily life and limits their independence.

A canine partner assists with everyday tasks which are difficult, painful or impossible for individuals with a disability to perform, such as:

helping with undressing

loading and unloading the washing machine

retrieving or picking up dropped items

helping with the shopping

retrieving money and card from a cash machine

opening and closing doors

pressing a pedestrian crossing or lift button

fetching help in an emergency
